Football Team Lands Preseason Ranking; Krause
Honored
With football
season less than three weeks away, UW-Stevens Point landed some preseason
accolades with the squad landing a national ranking and quarterback Scott
Krause named a preseason All-American.
The Pointers
are ranked 21st in the preseason NCAA Division III rankings by Lindys
football annuals. UW-Stout is ranked 11th in the same publication.
UW-Stevens Point was not ranked in Street and Smiths football preview, but
is listed under teams to watch.
Krause, a
senior from Waunakee, is one of three quarterbacks listed on Football
Gazettes preseason Division III All-American team. Krause is a third-team
selection, while Dan Larlham of Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) is a first-team pick
and Eli Grant of Case Western Reserve (Ohio) is the second-team quarterback.
A three-year
starter, Krause has started 29 consecutive games for the Pointers and led
the team to seven fourth quarter comeback victories during that span. He
took every snap last season and all but three snaps in 2001. Krause was a
first-team All-WIAC selection last year while completing 53.8 percent of his
passes for 2001 yards. He threw for 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Krause is one
of 18 returning starters from last seasons team that finished 6-4 overall
and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Pointers,
who lost just nine of 54 letterwinners from last year, open practice on Aug.
18 and play their first game on Sept. 6 at Augustana (Ill.).
