Johnson Named
First-Team Football Academic All-American
UW-Stevens Point junior defensive end Craig
Johnson has been named a first-team Academic All-American, becoming the
third football player in school history to receive the honor and the second
first-team selection.
Johnson, a Green Bay native who attended Preble
High School, was the only athlete from a Wisconsin college named to the
first or second team. He joins Joel Hornby in 1997 as UW-Stevens Points
only first-team selections. Andy Palzkill was a second-team pick in 1999.
Johnson is UW-Stevens Points 24th Academic
All-American in school history, including the 21st in the past five years.
He is the sixth first-team Academic All-American from UW-Stevens Point.
The teams are both chosen by position and include
all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA athletes in Wisconsin,
Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois. The squad is sponsored and chosen by the
College Sports Information Directors of America.
Johnson, who carries a 3.81 grade point average in
Business Administration, led the Pointers with 19 tackles for loss and six
sacks. He ranked fourth on the team with 51 tackles, including 33 solo
stops. He has started every game for the Pointers in his three-year career.
He also led the Pointers in sacks and tackles for loss as a sophomore, while
earning honorable mention all-conference laurels. |
