Box Score

Scott Krause rushed for a career-high 134 yards and threw for 139 yards to guide UW-Stevens Point to its first win at UW-Whitewater since 1986 with a 17-14 win over the Warhawks on Saturday.

Krause had a 66-yard scramble for a touchdown with 11:47 left to give the Pointers the lead for good. The Pointer defense then stopped the Warhawks on fourth down at the UW-Stevens Point 32-yard line with 24 seconds left to seal the victory.

The final score was deceiving as the teams combined for 813 yards of total offense. The Pointers amassed 446 total yards, including 307 yards rushing as they controlled the clock for 34:52 of the game.

UW-Stevens Point had two lengthy first-half drives that both lasted 5:43 to take a 10-7 halftime lead. The Pointers took the opening kickoff and drove 71 yards in 16 plays before Ryan Mullaney hit a 26-yard field goal.

After UW-Whitewater took a 7-3 lead on a diving 22-yard touchdown catch by Eric Stauss from Randy Borgardt, the Pointers drove 86 yards in 14 plays as Krause hit Ross Adamczak for a four-yard touchdown. The pass play was one of only two Pointer passes on the drive.

The Pointers drove 47 yards in 12 plays with 10 rushing plays late in the third quarter before Krause fumbled a snap at the Warhawks 37-yard line. UW-Whitewaters Chad Wurth then ran 63 yards for a touchdown on the next play for a 14-10 lead.

UW-Stevens Point wasted no time regaining the lead as Krause hit Cory Flisakowski for an 11-yard pass on third-and-11, setting up his 66-yard run on the next play. The Pointers were 10-for-20 on third down, while the Warhawks were just two-for-13.

The Warhawks were forced to a three-and-out at their own 20-yard line on the next possession, but UW-Stevens Point was penalized for having too many men on the field on the punt. UW-Whitewater drove into Pointer territory before being forced to punt the Pointers back to their own eight-yard line.

UW-Stevens Point was forced to a three-and-out with just under five minutes left when the Warhawks were also penalized for having too many men on the field on a punt. The Pointers then drove to midfield and punted back to the Warhawks with 2:10 left.

UW-Whitewater converted a fourth-and-six with one minute left when Borgardt hit Andy Rice for 15 yards. After another first down, the Pointers stopped the Warhawks on fourth down when Borgardt was blitzed and forced to hurry his throw.
