Brehm Earns
UW-Stevens Point�s First Baseball Academic All-American Award
UW-Stevens Point junior outfielder Chuck Brehm became the first Pointer
baseball player to be named an Academic All-American, earning third-team
honors on the team sponsored by ESPN The Magazine and chosen by the College
Sports Information Directors of America.
A Spencer native, Brehm was one of three outfielders on the third-team
squad which includes all Division II, Division III and NAIA players from
across the country. He was the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference player on any of the three All-American teams.
Brehm is the first Academic All-American at UW-Stevens Point during the
2004-05 season, but the school�s 23rd over the last six years. He is the
27th athlete in school history to win the award.
Brehm carries a 3.84 grade point average in Physical Education and was
the WIAC scholar athlete award recipient. He is among the top sluggers in
Division III baseball with 14 home runs and 54 runs batted in.
Overall, Brehm hit .386 with 68 hits, 11 doubles and 59 runs scored as
the Pointers finished 38-11 and reached the regional championship game. He
was named the Division III Hitter of the Week earlier in the season and hit
four grand slams during the year.
In addition to his on-field success, Brehm has twice been honored as
UW-Stevens Point�s Physical Education major of the year and is currently
president of the school�s SHAPER Club for Physical Education majors. He has
also volunteered as a math tutor for local high school students. |
