Brehm Earns UW-Stevens Points First Baseball Academic All-American Award

UW-Stevens Point junior outfielder Chuck Brehm became the first Pointer baseball player to be named an Academic All-American, earning third-team honors on the team sponsored by ESPN The Magazine and chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

He was the only Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference player on any of the three All-American teams.

Brehm is the first Academic All-American at UW-Stevens Point during the 2004-05 season, but the schools 23rd over the last six years. He is the 27th athlete in school history to win the award.

Brehm carries a 3.84 grade point average in Physical Education and was the WIAC scholar athlete award recipient. He is among the top sluggers in Division III baseball with 14 home runs and 54 runs batted in.

Overall, Brehm hit .386 with 68 hits, 11 doubles and 59 runs scored as the Pointers finished 38-11 and reached the regional championship game. He was named the Division III Hitter of the Week earlier in the season and hit four grand slams during the year.

In addition to his on-field success, Brehm has twice been honored as UW-Stevens Points Physical Education major of the year and is currently president of the schools SHAPER Club for Physical Education majors. He has also volunteered as a math tutor for local high school students.
