Peetz Named to First-Team All-Region Baseball Squad; Frombach Third Team

UW-Stevens Point senior first baseman Matt Peetz has been named to the All-Midwest Region baseball first team by the American Baseball Coaches Association, while sophomore second baseman Jake Frombach was a third-team selection. It is the first career All-Region honors for both players.

The Pointers finished 25-16 overall and placed third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, winning at least 25 games for the eighth consecutive season.

Peetz, a Spring Green native and River Valley High School graduate, posted one of the best offensive seasons in school history by ranking ninth in the NCAA Division III with a .465 batting average. He led the team with 66 hits, 43 runs scored, 14 doubles, eight home runs, 46 RBIs and 27 walks. Peetz had a 21-game hitting streak at mid-season and finished as the schools all-time leading hitter with a .396 career average and 199 career hits. He also had a school-record 43 career doubles.

As a first-team selection, Peetz is now eligible for All-American honors.

Frombach, a Stratford native, was eighth in the conference in batting with a .367 average, along with 47 hits and 19 RBIs. He struck out just nine times in 135 plate appearances and also had just seven errors at second base while posting a .950 fielding percentage. Frombach was selected to the team despite missing the last nine games of the regular season due to injury, but he returned for the WIAC tournament and went five-for-13 over the three games.
