Peetz Named to
First-Team All-Region Baseball Squad; Frombach Third Team
UW-Stevens Point senior first baseman Matt Peetz has been named to the
All-Midwest Region baseball first team by the American Baseball Coaches
Association, while sophomore second baseman Jake Frombach was a third-team
selection. It is the first career All-Region honors for both players.
The Pointers finished 25-16 overall and placed third in the Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, winning at least 25 games for the
eighth consecutive season.
Peetz, a Spring Green native and River Valley High School graduate,
posted one of the best offensive seasons in school history by ranking ninth
in the NCAA Division III with a .465 batting average. He led the team with
66 hits, 43 runs scored, 14 doubles, eight home runs, 46 RBI�s and 27 walks.
Peetz had a 21-game hitting streak at mid-season and finished as the
school�s all-time leading hitter with a .396 career average and 199 career
hits. He also had a school-record 43 career doubles.
As a first-team selection, Peetz is now eligible for All-American
honors.
Frombach, a Stratford native, was eighth in the conference in batting
with a .367 average, along with 47 hits and 19 RBI�s. He struck out just
nine times in 135 plate appearances and also had just seven errors at second
base while posting a .950 fielding percentage. Frombach was selected to the
team despite missing the last nine games of the regular season due to
injury, but he returned for the WIAC tournament and went five-for-13 over
the three games. |
