Johnson Named
First-Team Academic All-District
UW-Stevens Point senior Curt Johnson has been
named to the Academic All-District first-team for cross country and
track and field.
Johnson, a DeForest native, is double majoring
in biology and chemistry and carries a 3.92 grade point average. He is
now eligible for Academic All-American honors.
The team includes all NCAA Division II,
Division III and NAIA athletes in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana and
Illinois. The 10-member squad is sponsored and chosen by the College
Sports Information Directors of America. Johnson is the fourth
UW-Stevens Point student-athlete to earn All-District accolades during
the 2003-04 school year.
Johnson was the WIAC champion in the 5,000
meter run this spring and competed at the NCAA Division III
championships in the 10,000 meter run. He placed 18th at the Division
III cross country championships, while leading the Pointers to a
national runner-up finish.
Johnson received the WIAC Cross Country
Scholar Athlete Award in 2003 and has been named to the Dean�s List at
UW-Stevens Point every semester. He is a member of the Phi Kappi Phi and
Tri-Beta Biological Honor Societies and has published and presented
research at national conferences and symposiums. He has received a
student research grant and is active in research on Lyme Disease and
tick pathogens. Johnson is a member of UW-Stevens Point�s
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has attended the NCAA Regional
Leadership Conference.
