Softball Draws Seventh Seed at WIAC Tournament
UW-Stevens Point will be the seventh
seed for this weekends Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
softball tournament in Menomonie and draws UW-Oshkosh in the opening
round.
The Pointers and second-seeded Titans
open the double-elimination tournament on Friday at 11 a.m. at Wakanda
Park. The other half of the bracket has third-seeded UW-Whitewater taking
on sixth-seeded UW-Platteville. UW-Eau Claire landed the top seed for the
third straight year and is looking to become the first top seed to win the
event since 1999. The No. 3 seed has won the tournament three straight
years.
The last time UW-Stevens Point was
the seventh seed was also the last time the Pointers won the tournament in
2001. The Pointers are 23-14-1 overall and split a doubleheader with
UW-Oshkosh last week. In fact, UW-Stevens Point has won four of five
meetings with the Titans over the past two seasons. |
