UW-Stevens Point
Climbs to 13th Place in Directors Cup Standings
After several high national finishes during the
winter season, UW-Stevens Point has surged to 13th place in the United
States Sports Academy Directors Cup standings, which measure the top
overall athletics program in the NCAA Division III.
The Pointers currently have 358 points and gained
nearly 300 of their points during the winter season. UW-Stevens Point ranked
83rd overall in the standings with 60 points after the fall season.
Points are awarded based on finishes in national
tournament competition. The Pointers achieved a third place finish in
womens hockey, ninth place in mens swimming and diving, 10th place in
womens swimming and diving and 11th place in wrestling. Because fewer
schools sponsor the sports, hockey and wrestling points are worth half as
much as other sports.
UW-Stevens Point was also 20th in womens indoor
track and field and 23rd in mens indoor track and field.
College of New Jersey leads the overall standings
with 626.25 points, while seven-time defending champion Williams (Mass.) is
less than one point behind with 625.5 points. UW-La Crosse is third overall
with 479 points. UW-Stevens Point ranks third among Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools as UW-Whitewater is 12th overall
with 364.25 points. |
