UW-Stevens Point Ranks Third in Directors Cup Standings

Coming off a national championship in mens basketball and several other high winter sports finishes, UW-Stevens Point currently ranks third in the latest Directors Cup standings by the United States Sports Academy.

The rankings measure the top overall athletic program in the NCAA Division III based on points awarded through NCAA tournament competition.

UW-Stevens Point currently has 582.75 points, while UW-La Crosse is second with 597.5 and Williams (Mass.) is first with 739.75. Washington (Mo.) is fourth with 508.75 points.

The Pointers, who were in 12th place following the fall season, received the maximum 100 points in mens basketball by virtue of their national title. UW-Stevens Point also recorded a quarterfinal appearance in womens hockey, an eighth place finish in womens indoor track and field, a 10th place finish in wrestling and 12th place performance in mens swimming and diving. The Pointers also earned points through qualifying athletes for nationals in mens indoor track and field and womens swimming and diving. UW-Stevens Point won the conference championship in womens basketball, but did not earn any points because the team did not reach the NCAA tournament.

UW-Stevens Point is coming off its best-ever finish of fifth place from last season and has ranked among the top seven finishers four of the past five years.
