UW-Stevens Point had its season
end at the WIAC tournament as the Pointers went 1-2 in the double
elimination tournament with both losses to UW-Oshkosh. The Pointers lost 7-0
to the Titans in the opening game and then beat UW-La Crosse 7-4 before a
5-3 loss to UW-Oshkosh on Sunday. UW-Whitewater proceeded to beat UW-Oshkosh
9-6 in the title game to earn the league�s only bid to the NCAA Division III
tournament.
Matt Peterson (Plymouth, WI) was
five-for-11 and Jake Frombach (Stratford, WI) was five-for-13 to lead the
Pointers over the weekend. Matt Peetz (Spring Green, WI) was four-for-12
with two home runs and a school-record setting 43rd career double. He also
finished his career as the school�s all-time leader in batting average at
.396.
Matt Simonson (Plover, WI)
pitched the victory over UW-La Crosse, while J.C. Reinke (Bonduel, WI)
allowed just one hit over three and two-thirds innings of relief for his
first career save. Nat Richter (Green Bay, WI) broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth
inning with a three-run homer as UW-Stevens Point won all five meetings over
the Eagles this season.
TRACK AND FIELD
May 21 � at North Central
Invitational

UW-Stevens Point competed at the
North Central Invitational as individuals attempted to improve times for the
NCAA Division III outdoor championships, which will be May 27-29 in Decatur,
Ill. The Pointers have one more chance to achieve improved qualifying times
on Friday when they compete at North Central again.
The men�s team had two athletes
improve their provisional times in the 5000-meter run as Curt Johnson (DeForest,
WI) posted a mark of 14:32.30 and Mark LaLonde (Park Falls, WI) had a time
of 14:46.58.
On the women�s side, Megan Craig
(Bangor, WI) was the only athlete to decrease her qualifying time, posting
an 800-meter run time of 2:15.20.
