Baseball (Position Player) - Ryan Jones (Eau Claire, WI/North) - The junior first baseman went six-for-10 as the Pointers won three games to extend their winning streak to 20 in a row. Jones hit a home run in each half of the Pointers' doubleheader sweep over Marian. On Friday, he drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 3-1 victory over Northland. For the week, Jones hit .600 with six RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Baseball (Pitcher) - Eric Schlender (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) - The senior pitcher improved his record to 4-0 on the season with a 10-4 victory over Marian. In six innings of work, Schlender allowed four hits and no earned runs, while striking out three and walking just one in six innings of work. He retired the Sabres in order three times on the day. Softball (Position Player) - Rebekah Bauer (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) - The freshman outfielder went four-for-seven in a WIAC doubleheader with UW-Oshkosh. Bauer went two-for-four in the first game, hitting a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to give the Pointers the victory. In the nightcap, Bauer went two-for-three with an RBI and a stolen base. Softball (Pitcher) - Katie Knoedler (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) - The junior pitcher threw four solid innings in the Pointers' 9-1 extra inning win over UW-Oshkosh. Knoedler threw four innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run. She recorded one strikeout and did not give up a walk. Men's Track Events - Matt Legel (Crystal Lake, IL) - Legel placed second in the 800 meters at the Meet of Champions at Augustana College finishing in a time of 1:52.06. Legel's time was good enough to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA III Outdoor Championships. Men's Field Events - Scott Dreger (Cambira, WI) - Dreger provisionally qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Championships by scoring 6,347 points at the Meet of Champions at Augustana College. Dreger placed fifth at the meet. Women's Track Events - Teresa Stanley (Whitewater, WI) - The sophomore won the 5,000 meter run at the Augustana Invitational on Thursday. Stanley led the first half of the race, but needed to mount a comeback to claim victory in 18:34.61, edging Renee Pilon of UW-Oshkosh by two seconds. Women's Field Events - Amanda Nechuta (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) - The sophomore set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 45.40 meters at the Augustana Invitational. Her record-breaking throw provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Championships and is currently the fifth best throw in the country. She also placed third in the shot put at 13.00 meters and fourth in the javelin at 33.99 meters a new personal best. Nechuta has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in three of the four throwing events. |
