Baseball (Position Player) - Mike Hall (Manitowoc, WI/Lincoln) - The junior shortstop was three-for-nine in a doubleheader sweep of UW-Platteville and came up with two clutch hits to lead the Pointers to an 8-2 win in the second game. With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh inning, Hall launched a solo homer to give the Pointers the lead. He added a three-run double in the eighth inning to push the lead to 8-2. Hall also had 12 fielding chances without an error. Baseball (Pitcher) - Jeff Pieper (Wausau, WI/West) - The senior pitcher fired his fifth career shutout in a 3-0 blanking of UW-Platteville. He allowed seven hits and had no strikeouts or walks in the nine-inning performance. Pieper improved his career record to 20-5 and became the third pitcher in school history to record 20 career victories. Softball (Position Player) - Meagan Strmsek (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) - The freshman outfielder batted .609 (14-for-23) for the week with six doubles, a home run and nine RBI's. She ended the week on fire with eight straight hits, including hits in 13 of her last 14 at-bats. The only time she didn't get a hit during the span, she reached on an error. Strmsek had a double in six of the team's eight games during the week and also hit two sacrifice flies. Softball (Pitcher) - Karen Guckenberger (South Milwaukee, WI/South Milwaukee) - The senior hurler had a record-setting week, becoming the all-time WIAC strikeout leader with the 422nd of her career and the all-time NCAA Division III saves leader with the 14th of her career. Guckenberger also finished with two one-hit shutouts against Edgewood and Knox, a three-hit victory over Fontbonne and was part of a combined no-hitter against Edgewood. She was 3-1 with one save and finished with 16 hits allowed, 18 strikeouts and nine walks in 27 1/3 innings pitched. |
