Iserloth Selected in Eighth Round of U.S. Basketball League Draft

Former UW-Stevens Point mens basketball standout Josh Iserloth has been selected in the eighth round of the United States Basketball League draft. Iserloth was the 68th pick overall by the Westchester Wildfire and was one of only two Division III players drafted.

Ranking fourth on the Pointers all-time scoring list with 1,552 career points, Iserloths rights have been acquired by the expansion team in White Plains, N.Y. that is coached by former New York Knicks guard John Starks.

The only other Division III player selected was Willie Chandler of Misericordia (Pa.), who was a first round choice of the Pennsylvania Valley Dawgs. UW-Milwaukee guard Clay Tucker was the only other Wisconsin player selected as a fourth round pick by the Oklahoma Storm.

Iserloth has an opportunity to be one of the two rookies that each USBL team is required to have on its 10-player roster by May 15. The nine-team league begins tonight and runs through late June.

Iserloth, a Plymouth, Wis. native, led the Pointers in scoring and finished eighth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 16.9 points per game. He scored in double figures in 24 of the Pointers 27 games, made a team high 40 three point shots and ranked second on the team in rebounding at 5.1 per game. Iserloth also finished second in the conference in blocked shots averaging 1.74 blocks per game.

Iserloth, a 6-8 center, was a first-team All-WIAC and first-team All-West Region selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He is one of 14 players in the history of the WIAC to play on four conference championship teams as the Pointers posted an 88-22 record during his four seasons.

Iserloth is one of three former UW-Stevens Point players to join the professional ranks during the past four years. Brant Bailey played two seasons in Birmingham, England and is now playing professionally in Poland, while Gabe Frank was a member of the Rockford Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association and the Oklahoma Storm of the USBL. Bailey, Frank and Iserloth were all members of the Pointers 1999-2000 squad that reached the NCAA Division III Elite Eight.
