Iserloth Selected in Eighth Round of U.S.
Basketball League Draft
Former UW-Stevens Point men�s basketball standout Josh Iserloth has
been selected in the eighth round of the United States Basketball League
draft. Iserloth was the 68th pick overall by the Westchester Wildfire and
was one of only two Division III players drafted.
Ranking fourth on the Pointers� all-time scoring list with 1,552
career points, Iserloth�s rights have been acquired by the expansion team
in White Plains, N.Y. that is coached by former New York Knicks� guard
John Starks.
The only other Division III player selected was Willie Chandler of
Misericordia (Pa.), who was a first round choice of the Pennsylvania Valley
Dawgs. UW-Milwaukee guard Clay Tucker was the only other Wisconsin player
selected as a fourth round pick by the Oklahoma Storm.
Iserloth has an opportunity to be one of the two rookies that each
USBL team is required to have on its 10-player roster by May 15. The
nine-team league begins tonight and runs through late June.
Iserloth, a Plymouth, Wis. native, led the Pointers in scoring and
finished eighth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 16.9
points per game. He scored in double figures in 24 of the Pointers� 27
games, made a team high 40 three point shots and ranked second on the team
in rebounding at 5.1 per game. Iserloth also finished second in the
conference in blocked shots averaging 1.74 blocks per game.
Iserloth, a 6-8 center, was a first-team All-WIAC and first-team
All-West Region selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
He is one of 14 players in the history of the WIAC to play on four
conference championship teams as the Pointers posted an 88-22 record during
his four seasons.
Iserloth is one of three former UW-Stevens Point players to join the
professional ranks during the past four years. Brant Bailey played two
seasons in Birmingham, England and is now playing professionally in Poland,
while Gabe Frank was a member of the Rockford Lightning of the Continental
Basketball Association and the Oklahoma Storm of the USBL. Bailey, Frank and
Iserloth were all members of the Pointers� 1999-2000 squad that reached
the NCAA Division III �Elite Eight.�
