UW-Stevens Point had its third straight doubleheader
postponed on Monday when the Pointers were unable to play their games at
Marian due to poor weather. UW-Stevens Point was also cancelled last week at
Rose-Hulman and postponed on Saturday against St. Norbert.
The Pointers hope to play St. Norbert Tuesday at noon at
Lookout Park and the Marian games have been rescheduled for Wednesday at 2
p.m. in Fond du Lac.
UW-Stevens Point opens its WIAC schedule this weekend with
four games at UW-River Falls on Saturday and Sunday. The WIAC will be
playing a 28-game league schedule for the first time ever.

The Pointers opened their season by finishing 7-4 on their
spring trip to Fort Myers, Fla.
Jill Van Wychen (Kaukauna, WI) was the team�s leading
hitter on the trip, finishing 19-for-34 (.559 average) with 12 runs scored.
Nikki Best (Portage, WI) was 15-for-33 (.445 average) and Carrie Hermsen
(Oconto, WI) was 13-for-31 (.419 average).
Sophomore Jeanann Briski (Berlin, WI) pitched a
five-inning perfect game in a 9-0 win over Cardinal Stritch in her first
career start. She finished the week 2-0 with 10 1/3 innings pitched and a
0.67 earned run average.
The Pointers� WIAC and home opener against
UW-Platteville set for Tuesday has been postponed and will likely be played
Monday. UW-Stevens Point will travel to Chicago this weekend for four games.

Craig Gunderson (Waupaca, WI) overcame poor weather
conditions to place second in two events and lead the Pointers at Saturday's
Big Cat Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
The meet, which was conducted in a downpour the entire
day, featured several Division I schools and no team scores were kept since
many athletes withdrew from the meet.
Gunderson posted a time of 11.35 seconds in the 100 meter
dash and had a time of 22.66 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
The Pointers also had three champions as Kara Vosters
(Little Chute, WI) won the women's 5,000 meters in 18:03.73 and Eden Olson
(Marathon, WI) won the women's pole vault with a jump of eight feet.
Jeremiah Rolfs (Iola, WI) took the men's discus with a throw of 155 feet,
three inches.
Other top finishers on the men's side were Ben Treptow
(Viroqua, WI), who was second in the 800 meters at 1:55.53, Robbie Pieper
(West Bend, WI), who was second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 9:28.77,
Mark LaLonde (Park Falls, WI), who was second in the 5,000 meters in
14:41.33 and Ryan Shepard (Cornell, WI), who was second in the high jump at
six feet, two inches. Eric Fischer (Appleton, WI) was third in the
steeplechase at 9:35.56.
On the women's side, Amanda Nechuta (Mosinee, WI) was
second in the shot put at 38 feet, 6.75 inches and Theresa Stanley
(Whitewater, WI) was third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 11:53.48. This
season marks the first year of the women's steeplechase event.
The Pointer men compete next weekend at UW-Oshkosh and the
women are at UW-La Crosse.
