Jones (Eau
Claire, WI/North) � The sophomore first baseman hit .400 (six-for-15) with
nine runs scored, two home runs, six RBI's and six walks in helping the
Pointers to the WIAC Tournament Championship. This week, Jones set
single-season school records for home runs with 14 and walks with 38. Baseball - Pitcher
Jared
Szews (Birnamwood,
WI/Wittenberg-Birnamwood HS) � The junior right-hander went 2-0 with three
saves, appearing in all five games this week. He pitched 6 2/3 innings,
allowing two hits and no runs, and set UWSP's career save record with 14. In
the WIAC Tournament Championship game against UW-La Crosse, Szews worked out
of bases loaded jams in eighth and ninth innings. He also worked out of jam
with second and third and none out in bottom of seventh in an eventual 5-2
eight-inning win over Marian. Men�s Track Events

Treptow (Viroqua,
WI) � The senior ran this year�s fourth best time in the nation in the
800 meters. Treptow finished second in the race at the Leo Schnur Open in La
Crosse, in a time of 1:51.93. Men�s Field Events

Rolfs (Wild
Rose, WI) � The junior eclipsed the provisional qualifying mark for the
NCAA Championships. Rolfs threw the discus 49.40 meters (162� 1��) to
place fourth at the Leo Schnur Open in La Crosse. Women�s Track Events
Marcie
Fisher (Oshkosh,
WI) � The senior broke her own personal record in the 5,000 meters by over
40 seconds. Fisher placed second behind teammate Becky Lebak in a time of
17:20.92 at the Leo Schnur Open in La Crosse. Women�s Field Events
Jody
Butkowski (Stevens
Point, WI) � The junior smashed the 15-year old UW-Stevens Point triple
jump record by nearly seven inches at the Leo Schnur Open in La Crosse.
Butkowski won the event with a leap of 12.09 meters (39� 8��) braking
Carlene Willkom�s 1987 record of 39� 1.25��. |
