Players of the Week Apr. 24 Baseball (Position Player) Jon Jagler (Wausau, WI/West) - The sophomore first baseman went nine-for-18 with two doubles and two RBI's in the weekend games with UW-La Crosse and UW-River Falls. He had at least two hits in each of the four games. Baseball (Pitcher) Jeff Pieper (Wausau, WI/West) - The freshman right-hander pitched a complete game shutout in a 2-0 win over UW-River Falls for his second straight shutout, running his scoreless innings streak to 16 straight. He also shutout Marian last week. Against UW-River Falls, Pieper struck out four and walked two while scattering eight hits. Only one runner reached third base. Softball Sarah Berg (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) - The junior centerfielder went two-for-three in a 4-3 loss to UW-Oshkosh, scoring two runs and hitting a solo home run in the sixth inning that gave the Pointers a 2-1 lead. She went zero-for-three in a 1-0 second game victory. Men's Track Events Chris Horvat (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) - The junior ran a time of 1:51.54 to finish second in the 800 meters at the Meet of Champions in Rock Island, IL. Horvat's time was good enough to automatically qualify him for the NCAA III Championships. He also was a member of the winning 4 x 400 meter relay team, which provisionally qualified for the NCAAs. Men's Field Events Brian Buege (Wausau, WI/East) - The junior jumper won the triple jump at the Meet of Champions at Augustana College with a distance of 13.72m (45' 0''). Women's Track Events Becky Lebak (Burlington, WI/Burlington) - The freshman distance runner eclipsed the NCAA III Championships provisional qualifying mark in the 3000 meter run. Her time of 10:10.03 won first place at the Augustana College Invitational in Rock Island, IL. Women's Field Events Lisa Brownie (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) - The freshman jumper placed high in two events at the Augustana College Invitational in Rock Island, IL. Brownie placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.26m (17'03.25''), and sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.16m (33' 4''). |
