Bielmeier Leads Nation in Earned Run Average UW-Stevens Point junior right-hander Troy Bielmeier leads all NCAA Division III pitchers in earned run average in the latest national statistics announced Thursday. Bielmeier is currently 6-1 with a 0.97 ERA. Kyle Snurkowski, a junior from Western New England College, ranks second in the country with a 1.09 ERA. Bielmeier ranks third among all NCAA pitchers in ERA. A pair of Division II pitchers, Alex Carbajal of Cal St. Chico (0.70) and Kris Sutton of Tampa (0.71) have the top ERAs among all divisions. Bielmeier, a Wautoma native, has allowed just six earned runs in 55 2/3 innings pitched. He ranked second in the country last week, but took over the top spot despite his worst outing of the year, allowing four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings in last weekends 8-6 win over UW-Stout. Bielmeiers ERA jumped from 0.38 to 0.97 in Saturdays victory. Also, Pointers freshman pitcher Jeff Pieper ranks 52nd in the country in ERA at 2.27. Pieper, a Wausau West High School graduate, has given up just 11 earned runs in 43 2/3 innings. Pieper did not allow any earned runs in a nine-inning complete game 11-2 win over UW-Superior last weekend. Bielmeier and Pieper may be called on Saturday to face UW-Oshkosh, which is the top hitting team in the country with a .389 team batting average. The Titans also lead the country in scoring at 12.7 runs per game. UW-Stevens Point is currently 27-10 overall and faces the Titans in Saturdays Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals in Whitewater. |
