Named WIAC Athletes of the Week
A pair of UW-Stevens Point baseball players earned
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week awards
after their performances during the Pointers' trip to Florida last week.
Senior shortstop Jake Frombach was the league's
Position Player of the Week and freshman Jeff Zielke was the conference's
Pitcher of the Week.
Frombach, a Stratford native, hit a team-high .472
(17-for-36) with 10 runs scored and four RBI�s. The team�s leadoff hitter,
Frombach had 16 singles among his 17 hits and also drew six walks for a .548
on-base percentage. He also stole two bases and was solid in the field with
just two errors in 36 fielding chances for a .944 percentage.
Zielke, a Watertown native, had an impressive
collegiate debut against Western Connecticut State, retiring 16 of the last
17 batters and recording 10 strikeouts in a seven-inning complete game 6-2
victory. He also threw two scoreless innings to preserve the Pointers�
16-11 win over Hope (Mich.) and earn a save. Zielke finished with 11
strikeouts and three walks over nine and two-thirds innings pitched.
Opponents had just seven hits for a .206 batting average against.
