Brehm Named NCAA Division III Baseball National Hitter of the Week
UW-Stevens
Point junior outfielder Chuck Brehm has been named the NCAA Division III
baseball National Hitter of the Week after hitting grand slams in
consecutive days of the Pointers� four-game sweep of UW-Platteville. The
award is presented by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Brehm, a
Spencer native, hit .520 (13-for-25),
belting four doubles and four home runs as the Pointers swept two games from
St. Norbert and four from UW-Platteville. He scored 11 runs, had 16 runs
batted in, and accumulated a slugging percentage of 1.160.
Brehm went
four-for-five in Saturday�s second game against UW-Platteville, totaling
seven RBIs, a double and two home runs, including a seventh-inning grand
slam. He matched his feat in the second game on Sunday, hitting another
grand slam in the fourth.
Brehm was also
named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week
for the first time in his career. It marked the second straight week that a
WIAC player has earned the national award after UW-Whitewater�s Eric Baldwin
was selected the previous week.
Garrett Sanders
from Villa Julie (Md.) was named the National Pitcher of the Week.
UW-Stevens
Point is currently 18-3 overall and riding a 12-game winning streak. The
Pointers host UW-La Crosse in a four-game series this weekend with
doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at noon at University Field. |
